The best time to visit a casino is when you're feeling lucky, and you don't get much luckier than when you are vacationing in the Caribbean, one of the most beautiful regions of the world.  Risk-taking vacationers will be pleased to learn that all though the offerings are sparse, casino gambling does exist on the island of Barbados.

The D'Fast Lime, located in the city of Christ's Church is the only full casino in Barbados.  There are 25 slot machines on property, as well as several live gaming tables run by friendly and knowledgeable staffers.  D'Fast Lime is open 24 hours a day, and features a fully stocked bar and live DJ.  Guests must be 18-years-of-age or older in order to step foot on the premises, and a valid photo I.D. must be present to verify this.  Pay outs are made in United States currency.

...convene with Lady Luck...

As recently as the spring of 2010, the government of Barbados has begun to consider allowing cruise ships to open their casinos when docked in Barbados.  The thinking on this matter is that if cruise ships are permitted to open their casinos in Barbados waters, they will remain docked longer, and allow passengers to spend more time – and money – on the island.  As of this writing, there has been no resolution regarding this issue, though it is  expected to be met with little resistance.

Horse races are another popular gambling pastime in Barbados.  Just outside of Bridgetown in the Garrison Historic Area is the Garrison Savannah, Barbados' popular horse racing track.  The Garrison Savannah hosts events nearly every Saturday, and is particularly known for the Barbados Triple Crown and Barbados Gold Cup. Visitors can obtain tickets to horse racing events between $10 and $100(USD) depending upon the quality of the seating.  Betting on the races is permitted.

If gambling is not your forte, there is still plenty of opportunity to have fun in Barbados.  Days are easily spent exploring the historic attractions and popular sites, soaking up sun on the beaches, participating in sports such as tennis and golf, and shopping.  Night time is great for attending theatrical performances, club hopping, or watching sports at a pub.

Barbados is one of the lucky few Caribbean nations on which gambling is legal.  Take advantage of the opportunity, and convene with Lady Luck during your trip.  Whether you choose a day at the races, a night at the casino, or both; whether you win or lose, you're sure to have a memorable experience.
