Barbados Ferries and Boats

Charter boats are amply available and offer travelers a unique way to see Barbados

Unlike other Caribbean islands, Barbados does not have many ferry services. Luckily, another option allows travelers to get a taste of the beautiful seas and excellent weather for which the island is known.

Vacationers can charter catamarans and yachts for tours. Generally, these boats are rented out with a full crew and knowledgeable guides who are eager to point out areas of interest. Visitors can join an already-scheduled yacht cruise or create a sailing tour customized to their own interests.

Once in Barbados, the best way to find a local boat and guide in a marina near your hotel or resort is to ask the concierge staff. The yellow pages or local business directory may also be a good resource, but travelers are advised to do some comparison shopping to find competitive rates.

Visitors who are interested in traveling between Barbados and St. Vincent can do so via Bedy Oceanline, the only ferry service available in Barbados.  This service is relatively new, only having launched in October of 2009.  Prices range between $120 and $140(USD), but pale in comparison to rising airline prices between islands.  Passengers are permitted to bring with them two pieces of luggage, up to 60 pounds apiece.  Visit Bedy Travel's Web site for updated schedules.

The lack of inter-island ferries on Barbados doesn't have to slow you down. The availability of chartered yachts and scheduled local cruises provide an excellent customizable alternative to getting around the island.
